My brother had a brand new Spitfire mk.3, purchased after he got married in
1969. It was racing green with light tan upholstery, and it ran like it had a V-8. I
had a GT6 a year later, but I always liked his Spitfire...
These seats are fairly complicated in design, as British designers attempted to
comply with laws passed across the pond. An attempt was also being made to turn
the rough and tumble Spitfire into something more elegant.
TRF can supply everything you need to rebuild your seats to original condition.
In addition to the covers, you will very likely wish to purchase replacement seat
foams, as you are likely to find that your old ones have perished over the years,
possibly crumbling into a powder. Seat bottom diaphragms and seat back straps are
also available. You can strip your old frames bare and paint them before reassembly.
Be careful, however, to pay attention to every detail of how your seats are
constructed. Make notes, and take photographs. Proceed as if you were planning to
write instructions for someone else to rebuild your seats. Maybe you will actually
want to write these instructions and post them on your club's web site.
