Note:  A different stop/tail lamp is listed in the factory book for the Spitfire mk.3 in
1970.  In the Lucas reference books, the lamp even has a different model number.  From
speaking with two enthusiasts who own 1970 Spitfires, Darrell Floyd and Pat Davis,
we have determined that the difference in the two lamps is in the lens.  The lenses used
from 1962 to 1969 had a built-in reflex feature where the lenses used in 1970 did not.
The top part of the 1970 lens is larger.  This is the area that would be illuminated by
the double filament bulb.  The lower part of the lens, where the reflex feature was found
in the early lens, is smaller.  The factory books supports this in that the early lamp was
referred to as "stop/tail and reflex lamp" where the 1970 lamp was only called a
`stop/tail lamp" and a separate red reflector was listed.  We expect this change was made
to provide better visibility.  The 1970 style lens is not available and most supplier
simply supersede to the 1962-69 lens.  We feel that 1962-69 lens can be used if fitted in
pairs.  Our thanks to Darrell and Pat for their input.
