Car covers seem to have been around as long as there have been sports cars. Early
car covers were not very sophisticated. There are stories that one of the original car
cover and sports car accessories companies, MG Mitten, started out in business making
car covers for MG T-series cars out of army surplus parachutes. Advertisements for
MG Mitten could be found in all the car magazines, listing their car covers, Amco
accessories, and many other interesting accessories. Back in the day, if you visited the
MG Mitten store in Pasadena, you were likely to be waited on by the owner, Marion
Weber, who is given credit for inventing the car cover. Those days are gone, but you
can still buy a high-quality car cover made by Covercraft. TRF has been selling
Covercraft covers for years, and we use them on all our cars, aside from the cover that
John Swauger still uses on his TR3A. It is a poly-cotton cover purchased from MG
Mitten business rival Vilem B. Haan of Beverly Hills thirty years ago.
Car covers are not meant to be used as outdoor garages, although Technalon covers
are listed as being for indoor and outdoor use. Please study the listings, and choose the
cover that is right for your needs.
