The project to make the seat springs has finally came to completion after many
years of work. Years ago, TRF sold the same seat springs as other companies because
they were the only thing available. Unfortunately they sucked. The spring units sold
by others are designed and made like mattress springs, and cause the driver and
passenger to sit up on top of the spring unit with no support, and in many cases with the
driver's thighs rubbing against the bottom of the steering wheel. During cornering, the
driver and passenger rock back and forth, rather than being nestled into the cushions.
Figuring out how to make the spring units was the hardest project I have ever
undertaken. That is why other companies sell mattress springs instead of the right
thing. It took me months to understand how it should be done. We had sent samples
off to many manufacturers who couldn't do the job. I learned how the spring units
were made, and I had the components manufactured. Then, I couldn't find anyone to
assemble them. The manager of the sheltered workshop in Indiana County couldn't
understand. Finally, TRF's friend, Randy Phillippi volunteered to do the job. I showed
him how, but he had an intuitive understanding of how the springs fit together. Now, he
can do it much faster than I ever could.
