SEAT FRAME TACKING STRIP KITS, TR2, TR3, TR4
“Developed by TRF for You to Restore Your Seats to Original”
Seats fitted to the TR2, TR3, and early TR4 models had their origins in the carriage
industry.  Seat padding consisted of horsehair, cotton wadding, and hessian, what we
know as burlap.  While some glue is used, much of the upholstery is secured to the seat
frames using very small trimmer's tacks hammered into wooden tacking strips. Tacking
strips are secured to the seat frames with split rivets.  When the tacks are hammered
through the tacking strips, the ends of the each tack curl against the metal of the seat
frame, creating a barb to keep the tack from pulling back through the tacking strip.
On the fixed (non-folding) seat, the upholstery is pulled down over the seat back
and is tacked to strips found on the bottom of the seat pan and on the inside contour of
the seat frame.  Only one tacking strip is used on the folding seat.  It is located on the
lower edge of the seat back to secure the seat upholstery with tacks.
Tacking strips are made from a special plywood material and each kit listed below
includes tacking strips for one pair of seats.  Each kit also includes trimmer's tacks and
split rivets.  We have found that there are two variations in fixed seat pans.  Most of the
early seats that we have seen have four indentions across the seat pan and some TR3
seats are plain across the bottom.  Please  refer to the photos below to choose the kit
that is appropriate for your seat.
