WIRE WHEEL HUB ADAPTORS, TR2, TR3
Wire wheels were optional on all TR2 and TR3 models, but the earlier ones with
Lockheed hydraulics required special hubs, front and rear, which included the splines
for wire wheel installation. Ingenious enthusiasts can get around this problem on
earlier models if they wish to switch from disc wheels to wire wheels, but such a
conversion is very easy on later cars with Girling hydraulics, as splined adaptors were
fitted to the disc wheel hubs to accommodate wire wheel installation, although wheel
studs are shorter when wire wheel hub adaptors are fitted, and shorter studs must be
used to avoid serious damage to wire wheels.
The Roadster Factory arranged to produce a slightly updated version of the hub adaptor
used for wire wheels on TR3, TR3A, and TR3B models with Girling hydraulics. The
ones we make have a flange that is very slightly thicker to make a stronger part.
Triumph made this update itself and used it on TR250 and TR6 models, and their
catalogue system superseded the earlier part numbers to the later ones. TRF has sold
multiple thousands of our own precision-machined adaptors over the years, and our
pricing allows replacement anytime original splines show wear.
