BRAKE COMPONENTS—HYDRAULIC FLUIDS, BRAKE
BLEEDING, TR2, TR3
Castrol Brake Fluid is the closest currently available fluid to the Lockheed and
Castrol Girling fluids of the past, and this is the fluid recommended by most
manufacturers of hydraulic components.  In fact, TRW hydraulic cylinders come with a
warning that warranties are voided if silicone fluid is used.  Like the fluids of the past,
such as Castrol Girling Crimson and Castrol LMA, the current Castrol fluid is a very
efficient paint remover, and many enthusiasts do not like it for this reason.  An
accidental spill, leak, or drip, can ruin a paint job.  The alternative preferred by many
enthusiasts is the silicone fluid.  This fluid has good lubrication properties, low
moisture absorption, and many enthusiasts have been using it exclusively for years.  It
is your choice, but make it realizing the pros and cons of either one.
