IMPORTANT NOTES WITH REGARD TO REAR
FENDERS AND REAR VALANCE PANELS
All MGB roadsters and MGB-GT's with chromed bumpers were finished by
leading the seam between the rear fenders and the rear valance panel. With the
introduction of models with rubber bumpers in 1974, the leading of these seams
was discontinued, and the rear valance panel was made wider, while the rear
fenders were made narrower. Because of modifications made to the original
tooling, rear fenders and rear valances produced by British Motor Heritage for
chromed bumper models also include these modifications. Therefore, rear
fenders and rear valances should be replaced in sets. Otherwise, it will be
necessary to fill a two-inch gap between the valance and each rear fender.
Additionally, beginning in March 1967, all MGB models were fitted with
back-up lamps in the rear fenders, and modifications were made to the rear
fender tooling to include holes for these lamps. These holes must be blanked off
to keep earlier cars original or back-up lamps fitted according to preference.
Lastly, the fender assemblies listed may be fitted to the MGB models prior
to 1967 if the door post is modified to take the early door lock striker.
