DIRECTIONS FOR POLARIZING A GENERATOR
ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS
MGB Glove Box Companion

Generators must be polarized to match the grounding of the battery when
they are installed in the car. Here is a simple way to polarize a generator:
1. Fit the generator to the car, but do not make the electrical connections.
2. Connect the battery cables to the battery terminals.
3. Touch the bare end of an insulated wire, that you provide--a jumper
cable will work--to the terminal which is connected to the starter
solenoid, whether it be positive or negative. Flick the opposite end of
the wire to the field coil terminal of the generator, and your generator
will now be correctly polarized to your car.
